Can I drive my neighbor around before I’ve had my license for a year if he is foreign exchange?

Hi, I have had my license now for 5 months and live in Southern California, and I drive my brother to school everyday because my parents work and can’t. Well, my neighbors recently got a foreign exchange student, and since they also work, they need me to drive him to school too. I was just wondering if this is legal if I have a note from the host parents like the note I have from my parents explaining my need to drive them. Thanks!
